Yes, the Trumpists provide a nice example of equally extreme credulity. But the majority of Americans have be fooled into supporting military aggression when it was pushed by the mainstream media and most US politicians. Remember Saddam’s WMDs?

Here in Italy political parties, even the leftist PD (Democratic Party, which is the result of the union between the old Communist party and the centrist Democrazia Cristiana), believe that Ukrainians Nazis of Azov are nice people who read Immanuel Kant while the Russian Nazis are evil.

Part of it is the relentless propaganda by Fox “news” and the rest of the Republican media, especially the thousands of AM radio stations that broadcast 24/7.

It’s exacerbated by the analysis skills of your basic Trump Disciple.

These people were set up to fall for BS because of the totally unjustified but completely widespread adoration heaped on faith.

Faith is the process by which you arrive at conclusions for which there is absolutely no evidence, and frequently lots of evidence to the contrary. It’s the root process behind not only religion (which even I, an atheist, admit is generally benign, if foolish) but also other fanaticisms and delusions (the Big Lie about the stolen 2020 election, imperialism, racism, quackery, homeopathy, astrology, objectivism, ufology, conspiracy theories, climate-change denial, false accusations of ritual satanic child abuse, anti-vax movements, a host of superstitions, personality cults, jingoism, Chinese traditional “medicine”, feng shui, and the insidious brain parasite that leads people to endlessly obsess over anyone named Kardashian).

Faith is the real culprit here. Religion is just one of its many unfortunate consequences. The sooner we all recognize faith for the awful, horrible, misbegotten thing it is, instead of blindly singing its praises, the sooner we will have taken the next stage of our journey to becoming a sane society.

Weird suggestion that crosses the topics of helping the REAL freedom fighters in Ukraine with fighting the obstructionism of the fake Republicans and FAUX. Joe Biden should push for more American grain this year to prevent another Russian famine in Ukraine. Putin’s buddies will be jammed between helping American farmers and helping Putin. Obstructionism will hurt them, too. And even in the lucky case that there is no big famine (which seems extremely unlikely now), then the extra grain can be used for bio-fuel.

I saw some nutter, a guest speaker on some US TV show, trying to explain the origin of ‘Ukrainian Nazis’ as being ones the CIA let get away from the Nuremburg trials.

No one seemed to do any fact checking, like how the CIA wasn’t in a position to do anything at that point in history, and the western allies were quite happy to send turncoats from eastern europe/balkan states back…to inevitably be executed.

So there is plenty of this BS on ‘mainstream media’ without challenge as well.

As much as we like reading the comics for the fiction and escapism, this toon is reality. Putin is promoting to Russians his liberating of Ukrainians from Nazis. And his best bud in the US is still claiming the ‘20 election was stolen and he, Dump, won. So, instead of getting this Sunday going with a good ha, ha moment, I’m angry instead. Oh, well, it is just a rehash of old news afterall. Have a good Sunday, y’all.

Isn’t Putin just trying to rebuild the USSR and return that part of the world to the Dark Ages? I guess the only difference is that he and his cronies (Oligarchs) would keep their riches squirreled away somewhere.

My husband was on the roof of the Vietnamese embassy evacuating Americans the day Saigon fell. He was called back into service the day after 9/11 and sent to Afghanistan because we had no officers with combat experience. What he knows, what he can tell me (declassified) gives me a different perspective on these things. We don’t rush into Ukraine because Russia has nukes (and Trump pulled us out of the treaty agreement) the US and NATO can send weapons but soldiers would be commiting us to full scale war. No one wants that. Putin has lost it, but as with Hitler even a bad leader is dangerous. He is cornered with nothing to lose. I am sort of hoping a dark ops, CIA type plan is out there. It has been done before. I feel badly for Russian citizens who are being led down this garden path. And especially the soldiers who are also being told a fairy tale. They truly thought they were on a rescue mission. They have to be wondering WTF is going on!

People who invoke Nazis in political arguments almost always display zero understanding of what Nazis are. This is true regardless of which side of the political spectrum they’re arguing for. I’ll probably regret saying this when I see the intelligence level of the responses, but, prove me wrong.

Perhaps ironically, former israeli Prime Minister netanyahu once engaged in Holocaust denialism to pretend Palestinians (aka the Grand Mufti) caused the Holocaust, and his son yair once shared a nazi anti-semitic meme on facebook. So the concept of Jewish nazis is not as far-fetched as it used to be.

My mother told me, that during the 1930’s the people in her hometown couldn’t understand how the German people, one of the most educated people in the world could fall for Hitler’s propaganda. It probably helped that many of the people were already antisemitic, and since people were going back to work, much like FDR’s New Deal, and life was better, it wasn’t hard to be slowly swayed by his garbage. There was a made for TV drama back in the 90’s that showed a history teacher slowly but surely indoctrinating his students into a certain mind set, and just before the semester ended, he said he was going to introduce his students to the leader of this movement. When the curtain rolled back it was Hitler and his famous speech where he said he did not promise immediate results, but if the German people would follow him, he would eventually bring them prosperity.
