We all know what the joke is, but does CB know that he’s telling a joke? This strip started with him queuing up a defence for his dad knowing about cars and ended with CB revealing that his dad didn’t actually bother solving a problem with the car. Or does CB think that was a good solution?
I have the opposite problem. My husband is a die-hard car guy; I know just enough to be able to drive. LOL However, my husband is always asking me, “How’s the car running? Do you hear a strange sound?” etc. (We share a car.)
I’ve done that. Due not to lack of knowledge but rather lack of funds. If the noise is a one-and-done I don’t worry about it. If it keeps coming back, then I take Level 2 action.
A common tactic, back in the day, when a teenager could buy a car for $50, and have a group of friends to figure out what was wrong…then hit the junk yard for the needed part.
Seems what more and more people are doing now. And as cars become more and more computerized, it’s harder for the average person to be able to fix their own cars. Me, a grinding noise in the engine would mean take it to a mechanic (or used to mean tell my dad). My dad used to do most of the angine repair work either by himself or with a friend and one of my uncles. Now with the various microchips he has to send it more to a mechanic (not to mention he’s at the age he doesn’t like spending a weekend fixing a car).

And somewhere a mechanic is smiling because he’s going to be making a killing repairing that car!

His mechanic is the only person that smiles about going back to the grind.

I hate hearing from mostly men say JUST TURN UP THE RADIO…if there is an undetectable car noise.

Well, he knows that when they start making noise, the radio is loud enough to cover up the sound. That’s knowing something.
