My memory goes all the way back to having an actual locker. I don’t think my kids needed a backpack either. Perhaps that backpack is part of the issue with the young kids trouble with math etc.
When I see kids waiting at the bus stop I’m always amazed at how big their backpacks are. They’re either going to have very strong back muscles or be cripples when they get older.

Yup. For a digital age, the kids still have to lug around a lot of very big books.
