Why does Mike look like he is wearing glasses in panel 2, but he isn’t wearing glasses in the other panels? And why did the mother speak to Mike as found your report card, but then says Mike’s cub scout pin as if Mike wasn’t there in the room?
French couturier Paul Poiret campaigned vociferously against the corset around 1912, and most women abandoned them or turned to much lighter foundation garments.
Poiret designed straight up-and-down suits for women that didn’t require corsets.
Well, at least he is to old to get scared and run outside in that thing. Of course, if it’s working properly, he can’t run far without passing out anyway.
Those dangly tabs were necessary to hold up the nylons, Baby. Accidently-on-purpose flash a bit of those, and you would have men vying to do your bidding.

Since when, in Ely’s distant past, did she need a girdle? It must’ve been a keepsake item from her mother.

The lacing says corset, but, given when the strip was originally drawn, I would think she’d have a girdle, not a corset.

That’s quite a trick for Mike and Elizabeth to switch shirts from panel 1 to 2, and back again in 3!
Or maybe that’s actually Mike in panel 2, having swiped Elizabeth’s glasses?
