Usually, news are worthless unless one provides the context, bakcground analysis, etc. This is where newspapers are better. Should be better.

Sorry, you’re obviously thinking of movie reviews. News can simply be invented on the spot without regard for the facts. Just ask Messrs. Haig, North, Rumsfeld, Rove and Cheney if you don’t believe me.

Actually, I’ve found reporters complain a lot about their stories being misinterpreted after they’ve tried to provide context and background analysis. Seems most reporters don’t have a clue about context.

Ask any “science” reporter about how the so-called “vomit comet” micro-gravity plane rides work, and they can’t explain it. And don’t even try to rely on them for anything more complicated.

One thing that a newspaper has that the computer (not laptop) doesn’t…you can take a newspaper into the bathroom with you! You can also lay it aside, as marktrail indicated <:-p

Plus, it’s hard to line the bird cage with a laptop.

redskinsfan and saucy1121 - both excellent points. Also, the bratty niece can’t take the newspaper into her room and order stuff online with a “borrowed” credit card (yeah, it’s now password-protected and locked in the file cabinet when they visit).

In case you haven’t heard, newspapers (and other forms of traditional media) are on the decline.

Things like ‘ease of going to the bathroom’ and ‘lining bird cages’ with newspapers aren’t going to keep them alive for very long.

chasingmoby - newspapers will adapt and change like any other business. I bet it takes a lot longer than you think it will before they’re gone and superceded by non-print media, especially in the urban markets. And there’s always the car market freebies in front of the supermarket, for use in the bird cage.

Kind of like watching The New York Times flail about.

This is annoying as hell. ‘News’ on the internet is mostly Drudge-work.

Ten years later, and newspapers are still around — even the “failing New York Times”, haha!
