The kid left me a facebook message AND called. Pleasant. I’m opposed to making a big deal about it (particularly at my… and his… age) so that was just right.
I’m thinking that now that the kid realizes his dad shared a day with him only because it was Father’s Day, it’s a bit of a letdown for the kid. This is one case where Frazz didn’t seem to get it.
We had a brief visit for lunch with the daughter & SIL; she’s verrry busy finishing up college classes, while working full-time, so we’ve cut waaay back on seeing them until she’s done. (Thank God for texting & hands free calling!!!) But, we made home-made pizza & sat on the screened-in back porch & cuddled our granddog & the daughter had a welcome break from computer screens & studying. And we stopped at our fav park for a stroll on the way home. So, Mr. Father’s Day was happy.
When I was young, we acknowledged the official “Father’s Day” and “Mother’s Day”, but didn’t think we should be doing any less on other days. Their birthdays were more celebratory, because they were their days.
I have four sons. This is how all the conversations went: “Happy father’s day dad. Happy father’s day, son. How’s it going? Good. Youi? Good. Ok, talk to you later. Love you. Love you too.” Perfect.

Calls from my middle-aged sons, who also are fathers and they got calls from . . . and the beat goes on. Thank goodness.

My wife has dementia, sadly she never knew what day it was.

I find it puzzling how many married couples celebrate the day they got married, but not the day they met.
Although I do know one couple who do a double anniversary, since they got married on the 30th anniversary of their moving in together.
