When I see comments about how there is nothing good on TV, I translate that statement to “There is nothing targeted to my age demographic on TV” and assume the person is my age or older
That think today’s music, movies, art and everything is rotten
Getting old is rotten, quit blaming it on popular culture
I don’t understand when people say nothing good is on. Have you not found TCM or History? There is plenty of interesting things to watch, but some people just prefer to complain.
There is a dearth of programming I want to watch, though we recently found a better tv provider and it has a lot of the old westerns I watched as a kid, e.g., Tales of Wells Fargo.
The golden age of tv was over several decades ago. %99 of what they have on now mindless foul mouthed trash. I’ve given up watching most live tv and instead watch what I like on dvd. No commercials, shows/movies aren’t cut to make more time for commercials, I can pause whenever I want. I buy a dvd once and I don’t pay for cable/streaming services and I have enough shelf space to keep as many dvds as I want.
When I was a kid, TV was 3 channels of nothing worth watching. Now it’s 1800 channels of nothing worth watching. My most-“watched” channels these days are Music Choice Classical Masterpieces, Light Classics, & Soundscapes. If I want to actually watch something, I’ll find a good history or science documentary on YouTube & cast it to the TV, because even the “History” & “Science” channels these days are full of semi-sensationalist silliness…I’m looking at you, Don Wildman & Brad Meltzer & whoever that ominous Voice of DOOM is on that astronomy show!
Cable TV is a wasteland, but I’m finding a lot of content that interests me on streaming.
Ironically, to get the best deal on internet I have to subscribe to cable TV. The cable company sent me a new converter box over a year ago because the old box no longer works with the cable upgrades, I still haven’t bothered connecting it. The last time I tried to watch cable was when I was staying at a hotel, and even the content on the channels I used to enjoy (like History and Discovery) are complete garbage with interminable commercial breaks.
When cable was in it’s infancy there were some great channels and excellent programming with NO commercials. A&E’s Biography, Bravo, etc. We stream now also because stupid “Reality” shows which are anything but. Also I had a German co worker who told me the commercials came on before the show or after and NONE during the program. It’s terrible trying to watch a movie with constantly ad interrupting it, especially a suspense show. Ruins the suspense. I could go on but that would just be venting.
I watch KET. Great programs. Some Kentucky generated, others PBS and BBC. Really like the KET Classic Movies. Some include the first movie of now very famous people. Clint Eastwoods first movie was Tarantula. His role came at the end as a fighter pilot charged to kill the giant tarantula. Clint was wearing a helmet, oxygen mask and the only thing you saw of him were his eyes, but the voice was unmistabenable.

I find plenty to watch on TV. It’s the movie theaters that seem to contain only superheroes and minions.

I get 3,000 channels and pay for them all. About 2,000 of them are for the Shark Vacuum and another 999 are infomercials.

I get ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN … all the major networks. My favorite is OFF. I even have a special button on my remote for it.

the idea that there’s nothing that people want to watch is ludicrous – people in japan leave the tv on every waking hour…

I never understood people who complain about there being nothing good to watch on tv, only to sit there and continue to watch tv.

After LIVE SPORTS on tv there isn’t a lot that is worth watching.
