Worked for a company that promoted employee suggestions for improving processes. They promised a substantial reward for each approved idea. I worked a few days on one and managed to work out an annual savings of about $30K or more. As the promised return was about 10%, my new bride and I were anticipating about a $3K bonus. Got a check for $300!

Finally found out why. My boss had complained because his highest bonus was $300 and he didn’t think giving a new hire a bigger reward would look good for him. Neither did his complaint, but he was a lifer and, when I left 3 years later, he was still complaining and still stuck in that slot. Just desserts.

No more suggestions, we can’t afford it. Also “declare bankruptcy” is not a suggestion we will pay for……???

The company I worked for (Bendix Corp) set up a plan for rewarding suggestions. They had a whole department to review the suggestions and come up with reasons for not giving a reward.

After that, going from Good to Great sent things on a downward spiral.

It does indeed look like he hit the jackpot with this idea, so why is he running away?
