Cue Jo Stafford, for whom “On The Sunny Side Of The Street” was a hit in 1945.

I used to walk in the shade, with my blues on parade.

I like the sign down the street better…

Wake up, fall out of bed

Drag a comb across your head

Find your way downstairs and drink a cup

And look up, and notice you are late.

Find your coat and grab your hat

Make the bus in seconds flat

Find your way upstairs and have a smoke

And somebody speaks and you go into a dream

With the heat this summer, I’ll stick with: “I used to walk in the shade”

And by the time you’ve finished reading all that, the light has changed and you’re run over by the next car going through the intersection.

This is why they don’t let songwriters design traffic signals.
