Trash day hasn’t changed in the 25 plus years I’ve been in my house. However in an attempt to keep the cost down the town changes collection companies every few years. With each new contract the amount of trash we can put out each week gets smaller and smaller. Which is fine because we recycle upwards of 90% but the latest contract restricts what can be recycled. I’ve noticed a marked increase in the amount of garbage along the side of the roads now.
We always had a single company, contracted by the town. Everyone’s trash went out on the same day. The service was great. You never forgot to pay your bill. Maybe 20 years ago it went totally private, with each household choosing a company and negotiating a rate. There was a huge proliferation in pickup companies, so now I get to look at trash three days a week, minimum. Yea free market!
The city dropped off 2 huge containers in my driveway….after getting a new disposal co.
I called and told them I don’t have room for them anywhere and please pick them up..I only have one bag of trash once or twice a month.
I even had to write to a woman, and also to my council woman at city hall, stating I do not want the containers…but the trash man left a tag on my door saying I need to get the containers, anyway!
I wrote back to her and said I have a one car garage, no room and only one bag of trash! I also said I have back problems, and am in my late 70’s!What can she do to help me ??
She never answered me. Rude! But now they pick up the one bag and move on!
All that bull was a pita! I just think about all the older people who can’t speak up for themselves about things…pitiful!
Some idiot here wrote a long letter to the editor during the height of the pandemic, bit ching that his trash day got moved to Fridays, and how that screwed up all his weekends. Someone else rightfully wrote in " If that is the worst thing you have to complain about- shut UP!!!!!"

Our trash day changed. Not officially. It’s just so late now, they often don’t come until a day or two later.

We had 2 companies. The homes associations took one and the city took the other.

Resist, Leopold! Resist! The suburban ennui is strong in this one.
On the brighter side, garbage pickup is tomorrow, and you can terrorize the garbage man.
