Mom used to tell us we could play out in the rain “if it’s a warm rain.” I was grown before I realised no rain would ever be warm enough for her to let us do that.
In the sixth grade my buddy and me, on those rare occasions of rain, would stand under a downspout during our walk to school and get soaked. The nuns took pity on us and got us dry clothes, hot chocolate and cinnamon toast. After a few times, they got wise and called our parents…
Many decades past we kids tried to get to school dry, but then the problem became where to put the outerwear. Oh, and by the way. the burg was small and we walked to school, so there was always a good chance to get soaked on both trips.
I’m reminded of a TV commercial for kids’ outerwear that depicted a mother literally pushing her son out the front door in all kinds of weather.
The ad didn’t last long; I suppose that even with the kid wearing protective clothing and with the school bus just outside the door, most viewers could tell that woman was a b!
Elementary school we use to get cardboard and slide down the hill in the snow our pants were placed over the heat register too dry. They were dry by the time we started getting cold in out underwear. Heaven forbid they allowed that today. HaHa
Unfortunately, comic strips like this one will continue to feed the brains of those who think that just because you get wet/chilly that you’ll catch a cold. Viruses cause colds, not getting wet/chilly. Yes, getting wet/chilly could lower your resistance.. but you’d still have to be exposed to a cold virus to get sick.
Wow what a nostalgic strip. I had totally forgotten about those yellow slickers we used to have to wear in elementary school. The reproduction of the hat is perfect
Today’s urban legend is that your body being cold does not leave you more susceptible to disease. Sorry folks, but running around in the ran CAN make you more likely to come down with a cold. The virus are everywhere you just need a slightly depressed immune system for them to take hold and cold can do that, so can excessive heat

Why didn’t the school call Mom and tell her that her son was sitting in class dripping wet??

Sometimes, we see that being free is its own reward. Of course, “reward” is a relative term.

Children’s hospitals are filling up with kids with RSV, a respiratory virus. Supposedly owing to them coming together again in school.

Ah yes, the age old myth that playing in the rain will cause a cold.

I know it’s a comic and it’s very funny but getting wet and/or cold will not make you sick.
