Why, sure. I use caster oil it for my furniture rollers. Oh … you mean “castor” oil. I remember it as a threatened punishment for children because of the bad taste.
BTW, remember The Three Stooges short subject wherein they each drink out of a jug of castor oil to cool their burned mouths? “Now our problems are over!” That’s one of the in-jokes I didn’t understand until I grew up:
“People use castor oil as a natural remedy for occasional constipation. It’s approved by the FDA as a stimulative laxative. However, it can cause side effects, like cramping and diarrhea, and you should not use it to treat chronic constipation.”
My Nanny (great-grandma) used to have us take cod liver oil pills. I really liked the yellow coating, it was very sweet. I am probably thankful I do not remember if the rest of the pill tasted nasty.
In our family we have always kept a bottle of Castor Oil handy, going back to at least Mom’s mom. But not for internal use – it’s used topically to help reduce the swelling, bruising, and the pain of bumps and bruises. Apply it to the affected area, and cover with a cotton bandage. In case of smashing a finger with a hammer, soak the digit in a bowl of castor oil for a while, and then bandage. It does work, although I’ve yet to find a doctor, nurse, or pharmacist who can (or will) explain why. These days it’s hard to find, and you get strange looks when asking for it.
Just today my wife and I were discussing changes in the serving of castor oil over the ages. We were brought up with doses of castor oil by the spoonful. Apparently, it now comes in capsules. Where’s the fun in that?

We might still believe in its healing powers, but we’re not dumb enough to actually take it ourselves.

No, I think that kind of plugger is long gone, decades ago. Maybe the original pluggers were indeed “plugged up” a lot!

Detox the body was it’s purpose so the new detox fad isn’t so new, just uses different products that are a bit more palatable.

It comes in capsules, high in D-3. Lots of young types take it.

Nearly 50 years ago I was told it could prompt labor when the baby was a little overdue. Didn’t work.

How about cough medicine called Terpenhydrate (with codine). I used it back in the 1950’s – Just the fear of taking the ‘burn’ stopped my coughing.

If I remember correctly WWI aircraft engines were lubricated with caster oil. Breathing in the fumes have the same effect swallowing it.

My dear mother tried that on me once. Fortunately we were standing right next to the kitchen sink. That was the end of castor oil for me.
