I am careful not to put mud/grease/etc on the “in the house” towels. Because then I’ll have to wash them… or replace them. That’s what shop rags are FOR after all!

I think it’s stupid and useless having guest towels hanging in your bathroom when you have no guests in the house, but Earl, you need to wash your hands better.

If she knew better, she wouldn’t put them out and tempt fate.

Did you know, most guests won’t use the fancy towels for fear of soiling them.

How about putting regular towels out and saving the guest towels for when guests come? Or buy a Portapotty and put it out back with a hose and a box of sand?

Earl knows he’s in trouble. Standing in the closet and hiding is not going to stop her from nagging. He’s got to come out of there sometime. He would have done better to have taken Roscoe for a walk.

Why not just put them out when guests are due? There won’t be collected dust on them either that way.

Opal, you are assuming that it was his HANDS that Earl wiped with the guest towels. There are other things that a man might want to wipe dry in the bathroom you know.

Now try to sleep tonight Opal, now try to get some sleep.

Unknown to me, my mother-in-law had some towels hanging on the rack in the bathroom that were just for show, you weren’t supposed to use them. The first time my future bride took me home to meet the parents, nobody told me that. So I used one of them. That was one of the reasons my MIL labeled me a “barbarian” for the rest of her life.

Normally, I see Opal as the logical and adult one and Earl as a bit silly and self centered and childish. However, today she is being very silly to be putting out clean guest towels when she obviously knows Earl will childishly make sure he gets them filthy. Both are being self-centered here, and only Roscoe is the adult today, minding his own business. Earl was set up and couldn’t control himself.
