I was on a downtown street when I got stung — nothing but concrete for at least ten feet in any direction, so no nests and no other bees (or whatever they were) in sight. I have no idea what that stupid bee was so angry about.
Wow, wasps in clothesline poles — I never heard of that.
Years ago, when I lived in a townhouse, wasps built a nest right over my door. That was freaky. I got some special spray that shoots a long distance just for wasp nests. It was awful — a lot of dying wasps were writhing on the ground and I felt so guilty and evil. It still bothers me that I did that but I didn’t know what else to do at the time.
It boggles the mind that there was a bee in that setting you mentioned. (It was probably angry about being in the concrete jungle because he forgot to take dat left at Alba-koikee to get back to the flower laden mountain meadow.
The horizontal poles that hold the ropes are pipes and the wasps were living just inside the ends. I didn’t like to have to play dodge ball with them. I think I had let them “finish out the season” before stuffing and caulking the ends. I later took some 2 inch ABS pipe segments and tied them to some tree branches. I saw only one of the 3 or 4 actually having wasps in it. Wasps help keep bad bugs out of the garden as do ladybugs and mantisies.
One of the outside lights on the carport has a nook where wasps would go and now I have some heavy cloth stuffed in and they haven’t been back but I see them scouting for a place to perch. I have used the streamer spray and sometimes I have just knocked a nest off some place it was and then that pretty much does it and no killing needed.
There’s more to the beach than swimming. You can look for seashells, build a sand castle, look in tidepools, fly kites, etc. At least they didn’t use the beach as a giant litterbox. On another note, saw a spotted towhee, a butterfly, five chickadees, three dragonflies, a junco, a robin, and a wren while out walking today.

Some cats love sand. Fish wash up, and sea gulls and sand crabs are fun to chase.

Sandwitches at the beach – yum! But remember to wait a half hour before going back in the water.

Just because you’re at the beach doesn’t mean that you have to go in the water. Just think of the beach as the world’s largest litter box.

You may not like the water, but you’ve got a giant sandbox there.
