Before the French-Indian War the American Colonies were the freest place on earth. The War cost England a lot of money and they demand the Colonies start help paying for their defense and that was the start of the “tranny” aka paying taxes.
Of course, less than 10 years after the British surrendered and the United States became independent, most of the same imagery and rhetoric used by the colonists in the revolution was used by farmers in western Pennsylvania in the Whiskey Rebellion against the new United States.
Thanks be to God for the Declaration and our founders. They recognized that our rights to life, liberty and property are natural to us; they are given to use by God – NOT government. As Jeffereson put it we gain those rights from “Nature or Nature’s God”.
They codified that governments are designed to serve man and that man is not made to serve government. They recognized that when government doesn’t have the consent of the people, it is illegitimate.
Ultimately our founders created the US Constitution designed to limit the powers of government is limited in power. They designed a system to protect individual freedom from the rampaging betters of the elite or the majority. They recognized that justice should be applied equally and that rule of law should replace rule of man.
Now, it took another 85 years or so to finally end the scourge of slavery and hundreds of thousands died to free those slaves. Since then we still have been working toward a more perfect union.
America is now under attack internally from those who believe government should be in charge, that freedom is meaningless and that a collective should supplant the individual. Do not let them succeed, Stand peacefully for your freedom and our Constitution now and drive back the collectivists and the post-modernists seeking to destroy truth. Keep America FREE!

If he was my cat, I’d be tempted to declare him free. Free to leave, free to whoever wants him, etc.

I have an awful feeling about how Bucky will spin that little piece of paper.

I think in many, perhaps most, cases you have to do a little more than declare it.

Writing was the easy part, getting powerful respected people to sign it was much harder … and then, of course, there was the war.
