I was about to go outside during a T-storm when I remembered that 9 Americans die from lightning every year. “It’s a good thing I’m Canadian” I thought as I continued out the door.
This is why it is good to live near power lines that rise forty to fifty feet in the air. They have a grounding cable and are the favored targets of lightning strikes. There are exceptions, of course. They are only good for about thirty yards, it seems.
I was standing in my garage working a light fixture for the attic. There was a strange noise outside and the fixture shocked me. I looked at the wire which was not attached to anything yet. My metal Quonset hut probably took the majority of the hit.
A comedian, whose name escapes me, quipped that the worst case scenario would be ‘he never knew what hit him’ Imagine going through eternity not knowing how you ended up here. “I was walking down a street when the next moment… here I am”
Lightning Fearmongering? Fear it here, fear it there, fear it everywhere?
Well, yes, but only as a low-order priority. There is plenty else to fear if that’s your gig. On the other hand, Captain Janeway says Fear only exists to be conquered….

…my next door neighbors’ Dad used to make them run between their house and the barn during lightning storms…
…they considered it like a game…
…said it was fun…
…meanwhile, lightning struck our Tv antenna…
…and blew up our Tv…
…we got a new ‘colour’ television out of the deal…
…I wonder if Steve, John or Lee would had gotten a new brother?…

Can you imagine minding your own business just taking a shower, and the next thing you know you’re in Hell?

Most people struck by lightning survive, but end up with heart and neurological problems.

1/3 of a chance dying inside vs. 2/3 outside … the odds for a Darwin Award nomination are good … maybe an honorable mention ….
