I refuse to watch the news. The problem is that people seem to think it is their duty to keep me upraised. And politicians seem to have bought a lot of time on the tv.
Not knowing the “news” doesn’t make me happy. I know that it’s still happening, and often in ways that could do me (more) harm if I’m not aware of them.
We haven’t watched the news for over 25 years now. The actual information is available elsewhere and without the twist that the network owners want us to believe.
Evolution of the USA. The Fairness doctrine only applied to broadcast TV and radio not to cable, so when the FCC tried to codify it in 1987, the Reagan administration felt it was unnecessary. People who pay for and who only listen to propaganda cable outlets are being manipulated and conned into voting for candidates who will hurt them and the country.
