Just for your information, sinister means left or left-handed. Since most people are righthanded, we shake hands with the righthand to show that we are not holding a weapon. Lefthanded people can shake your hand and still stab you.
Aw, poor little Iggy looks so miserable. I’m a bit surprised Freddie’s not hanging around trying to offer what comfort she can, unless she’s just off panel.
The meaning of “sus” or “suss” as we spelled it certainly has changed. In the 1960s it was a British slang term meaning to realize, intuit or sense. To suss something out was to reason it out.
We have a lamp just like that one! I really wanted one of the same shape but featuring a large snake coiled up the base and around the glass shade that I saw in the Met museum catalog that year but couldn’t afford. (Had a neat Ancient Egyptian vibe). Ours is a plain big box store item but it does the job of illuminating a corner.
Iggy looks positively miserable. Where did your voice go? Yowl and summon help! Beatrice may find the addition sus (thank you Burt for the translation), but I really like the aesthetic and all the random antiques.
So Burt is obviously broadcasting Bea’s adventure based on the Live in the corner of panel two and his chyron in panel 3, but are the cats back in the bedroom watching the BCN feed or are they just watching what Bea is recording on her phone?
Ian update: I understand that the power is on in most of SW Florida except for the barrier islands of Lee and Charlotte County! School has amazingly started or will start by next Monday in these counties as well. The community college where I worked has adapted an online system as the 2 campuses in Lee and Charlotte County were blasted but the other colleges down there have started in person classes.
A friend I knew from grad school and I worked with down there asked for a request, one I was happy to oblige, he has 2 cats but his house in Cape Coral is not in any shape to live in, he was in the south and took 4 feet of water, lot of mold. I agreed to foster the kitties until the insurance *****s sort everything for my old Bama buddy. My wife was a bit put off but only because she also agreed to take in our daughter’s roomate Sam’s cat who used to be with her Mom in Cape Coral but cannot stay with the grandfather due to allergies (royally sux). We have a full house but the hisses have calmed down… My daughter’s bedroom is now the new cat’s domain and in time all the cats will eventually get along.
You see, what the news does not report is that all the animal shelters just to our south are overloaded, facilities boarding pets are full too, its ugly, even though Ian is not on page one except here on the Suncoast.
On the bright side, my friend Sheldon who brought his 2 cats up here last weekend is also a Bucs’ season ticket holder, so for at least 6 hours last Sunday he, my wife and I were able to enjoy something near normal for Oct (A Bucs win with some BBQ and Budweiser/Tecate)!
I lived down there, this hit home hard and a few of my students (2 Tampa Firefighters a St Joe Hospital Nurse and a Deputy) are down in Lee and Charlotte helping with the recovery though classes have started again up here. They will most definitely pass this semester with flying colors even if we have to “extend” the semester, I will make sure of that. Take care everyone!
Poor Iggy looks so sad and scared, and Ora Zella is cautiously peeking out of the hatbox. Don’t be scared, babies, Bea is harmless and the people you are about to meet are wonderful. The News Crew is pretty nice, too.
Okay, that was a new one. I just tried to post a comment and GoComics came back with a warning that said: GoComics only allows posting two comments a minute. Wait a bit. (Or something like that).
Okay, explanation time: “Sus” is a term from the game Among Us, where crew members in spacesuits must perform tasks aboard a spaceship or a scientific base, such as maintaining equipment or scanning items. But a small number of those crew members are actually “impostors”, alien creatures disguised as the crew, whose purpose is to kill them and sabotage their equipment.
.
This generates an atmosphere of paranoia, where everyone must carefully watch each other’s actions for evidence of suspicious activity. An “emergency meeting” can be called at any time, usually when a body is discovered. The crew members must then explain to each other what they saw and who they think is responsible, or defend themselves from accusations. Since many players don’t use voice communication software and instead type in text chat, they will call someone “sus” as shorthand for “suspicious”.
.
Being careful as an impostor is of vital importance, since an emergency meeting will lead to a vote amongst the surviving crew. Whoever is decided by majority vote as being an impostor meets a grisly fate, such as being thrown out an airlock or dropped in a pool of molten magma. Very good impostor players can frame innocent crew members and get them voted out instead.
After a string of several smarmy telemarketer/con artist types trying to use an air of entitlement to get past me to the folks who are paying my service to gatekeep for them, I have decided “sus” is in fact a very useful word. Thank you, Bea and Burt.
I have an app, 4 Pics 1 Word were you are shown 4 pictures and have to come up with a word related to the pictures. One of today’s daily puzzles used questionable language, the answer was spice(s). :) I tried with the actual word to see if it is still being blocked by GoComics and it is.
* crackling noise * Readings seem to be picking up additional cats. Also indicates this room should seriously be aired and cleaned. Will continue to observe the situation.
The captions defining “sus” cracked me up for some reason. Oh, and the word is largely derived from a single video game that was wildly popular during lockdowns: a game called “Among Us” in which people play as crewmates on a space vessel—only one of them is actually the imposter and sneaks around to murder them secretly. In between rounds, the group discusses who the imposter might be, while the imposter does his best to act innocent, lead the conversation, and/or throw the blame elsewhere. Players can vote to eject one person per round.
Watching a group of friends play is incredibly entertaining. I had fun watching Outside Xbox and co. play; you can still find the videos on Youtube if you happen to be interested. They’re 95% clean (should be no swears).
