Most people don’t vote for a candidate. They vote for the one that’s left after eliminating the rest.

I hope this current story arc, just like our current political story arc has reached its peak and will start to swing back toward a more productive and reasonable position. This feeling of being played is getting rather tiresome.

Today’s version: handguns instead of AR-15s at the polling places. Political power comes from the barrel of a gun. If you can’t get what you want, use violence and intimidation – that’s what Makes America Great Again. /s

So, as I understand it, some people want no one to win and others want only the survivors to win. I get it now. Darwin was spot on.

I really do wish that our election cycles would sound less like a season of Survivor (American game show) or a football game (American). It is depressing to realize that a majority of those voting probably can’t even name the candidates on their ballots without reading the ballot, let alone know anything about their actual qualifications. I would say I am relieved that it will all be over ‘tomorrow’ but I know that it won’t — we will have two weeks or two months of analysis, griping and panic and then we will start getting political solicitations for the 2024 election. I am trying to figure out how to change my email address but notifying all the legitimate business and social connections will probably take until the next election.

    Us and them

And after all, we’re only ordinary men

    Me and you

God only knows it’s not what we would choose to do

    Down and out

It can’t be helped, but there’s a lot of it about

    With, without

And who’ll deny it’s what the fighting’s all about

Out of the way it’s a busy day, I’ve got things on my mind

For want of the price of tea and a slice, the old man died

Once there were limits on political contributions. Then there are none that can’t be gotten around. Elective office became a marketable item the same as goods in a market, and getting elected, so as to enjoy hogging it up at the public trough, is apparently the goal for most modern candidates. We have progressed from a country to envy for our freedoms and institutions, to a country to be pitied for what might have been.

I was born in the early 1960’s — depending on who you talk to, I’m either a Boomer (but I didn’t get any of the benefits of being a Boomer) or a Gen-X (but I didn’t get many of the Gen-X benefits either). I “came of age” during the 1970’s, and lived in fear of a nuclear holocaust. Now, because of all the bullsh!t that is going on in this country for the last 6 years, I’m starting to welcome the idea. Let’s just start hurling nukes at each other end put an end to this f@cking madness. In a couple million years, hopefully the dolphins can take over.
