We used to say, when I was in the Air Force, the only ones who re-upped either were afraid they couldn’t make it on the outside, or knew they couldn’t make it on the outside.
Better yet, don’t “up”. But I guess he already signed the papers, so it’s too late for that.
Actually, my time in the Navy was, on the whole, a very positive thing. But it’s not for everyone. And I don’t think I would have wanted to join Id’s armed forces.
Within weeks of my transfer to USAF, Mildenhall, England in 1960, I asked to extend for 6 months, because I really liked the people and the country and wanted to learn more about them. That went well but the next time I requested an extension the only choice was to re-up for 4 years. Given what I had learned of military ways of operating, I didn’t like it that idea much and passed. At the end of my tour, I was assigned to Ft. Meade, MD, the dumping ground for those with good sense enough to want out. It wasn’t England, but it also wasn’t another 4 years.
The Army did a study. IIRC, they found that soldiers who retired after twenty years had a normal lifespan. However, those that stayed on for thirty years before retiring only lived on average for another seven years.

Well, considering the issues facing the military now, and horrifically low recruitment…….so many won’t even up, never mind re-up.

My advice to you, young man, is to sign up with the Huns. They’re very laid back, and they have better pizza.

Seems that advice is detrimental to IDs security!

I can vouch for Rodney’s advice. I was doing fine until I signed for another enlistment.

Reading these older comics are interesting as an time capsule of the 60s and 70s. Its an insight into the culture.
