I can relate. Both knees have been operated on several times and it isn’t infrequent that my knees sound like a bowl of Rice Krispies® when I begin to walk.
70 years old here. 2 knee replacements, 1 hip replacement, you want to talk about creaking! Can still walk 18 holes of golf though. But going through metal detectors are real fun…..
At 73, my knees are showing their age but without any popping and cracking. When I was in my 30’s I thought I’d need knee surgery. The orthopedist thought otherwise. It turned out to be weak muscles along side of the knee. With some simple exercises, the problem went away.
Reminds me of when we were kids. We’d read in bed under the covers with a flashlight. My mom would try to ‘silently’ sneak up and catch us. BUT her toes would ‘crackle’…like popping knuckles…always gave us a few seconds warning so we could stash the evidence and assume angelic poses of innocence.

At 44½ years of age, you’re not getting any younger, Garfield.

Perhaps he needs some oil, or a wheeled vehicle, like a wheelchair or a skateboard, so that he won’t have to walk.

Caught in the act, albeit rather indirectly.
