Actually, acts of kindness that are difficult for the performer do count…but the attitude and motivation are everything.

Now Cal decides to be neat. His room is a wreck and his mind is all static electricity, but he gets bombed over how one handles his comic books.

Hobbes reads Calvin’s comic books anyway but this time Calvin is actually lending one to Hobbes!

It has been noted before that Hobbes sometimes reads one of Calvin’s comic books before Calvin and therefore knows what happens in it when Calvin doesn’t. This is just one example of how Hobbes knows things Calvin doesn’t know.

Calvin is beginning to sound like a lawyer. It’s only a matter of time before the Supreme Court hears the case of Calvin v. Santa.

I don’t think it will turn out like the Miracle on 34th Street.

If somebody does that to me, I’d burn the comic in front of them just to teach him a hard lesson!

How does Hobbes use tongs? Does he have opposable thumbs?

Spontaneous? Not so much.

Nope. If your good deed ends by your yelling at the ungrateful recipient, it doesn’t really count.

As a child, I remember bargaining with God the same way Calvin bargains with Santa…

Reluctant acts of goodwill should count for more – they’re so much more difficult.

I think many of us follow Calvin because he is the expression of many feelings and attitudes we had when very young but never expressed openly and still remember even seventy five years later.

Oh wow, Calvin’s face in the first panel looks so unnatural for him. Then again, he’s also ACTING unnatural.

Sheldon would really blow a gasket when Howard or Leonard touched his comic books without gloves on.
