Know of anyone in that 8% who pronounces it “Wiffy”? (Who were Nixon’s go-to NFL and NCAA teams anyway?)

That must have been as unpleasant as hell with Nixon attending games, you know how nervous the Secret Service is

Boomers had practice in Philadelphia. We once had a rock radio station with the call letters WIFI. It was pronounced “why-fye” just like the wireless internet today. Unfortunately, WIFI-92 is now a country & western station called 92.5-WXTU.

Nixon loved football so much he would secretly tape the games and bug coaches phones to learn the game plans.

Nixon carried that ‘love’ for the game over into the Vietnam war. He had a heavy hand in it, with things like “operation linebacker”. Westmoreland hated it, but had to pretty much go along with it.

For all of you pharmaceutical fans, and I’m sure there are none, WFI (water for injection) is also pronounced wiffy

The Wi-Fi factoid must refer to America only. In Spain and France, close to 100% pronounce it Wiffy. In Spanish-speaking Latin America it’s usually pronounced the American way. It can be pronounced either way as Wi-Fi actually doesn’t stand for anything (it doesn’t stand for Wireless Fidelity or anything of the sort).

In Europe, it’s pronounced “wee-fee”. Never heard of “wiffy.” I’ll have to ask my wifey.

Those hilarious cut-ups at the CIA, sending out rib-tickling tweets while subverting American democracy and icing perceived enemies around the world. I love those guys!
