The guy on the right reminds me of my once young granddaughters, who 20 years ago, couldn’t wait to get to family dinner table with their phones. When I denied them that totally inappropriate privilege, their hair and expressions resembled his. They consumed a ton of food in about 3 minutes flat, then sulked when I wouldn’t let them race away until all were finished. That useless, thoughtless fixation appears to worse now everywhere.
For the record, since the invention of spam email my actual snail mail trash has diminished too almost nothing. Score one for the environment. At least my environment.
Regarding the great Pacific garbage patch, I’ve often wondered:
What if all nations crossing the central Pacific routed their ships through the patch, and required them to net and bring aboard 1/2 ton of that garbage, to be taken to the next port of call and offloaded to be dried and burned in a power plant. How long would it take to completely remove that garbage from the ocean? Same question for the Atlantic one.

Walked out this morning, I don’t believe what I saw
Hundred billion bottles washed up on the shore
Seems I’m not alone at being alone
Hundred billion castaways, looking for a home
