Reminds me when my old man used to pull off his big belt and you could hear it clearing all the belt loops, I knew I was in big trouble too… Glad it didn’t happen very often for sure, but it probably made me a better person in the long run..

And it also meant some big trouble for your mom when she intended to call you by your full name but has memory lapse and your mom can only remember the initial to your middle name!

As a kid, I could usually tell how much trouble I was in by how many of my names my mother called for me by. My first name, it usually wasn’t too bad, I didn’t clean my room or something. My first and last, it was more serious, I hadn’t cleaned up after the dog and someone stepped in the stuff. If she used my first, middle and last name, I had really made a mess of things by throwing rocks at cars or something. If it was my dad calling for me with all three names, I started making out a will.

I had the same experience with my mother. I already had/have one of the shortest names in the English language, so calling me by the full name, with no initials, was ominous. She wasn’t testing her memory.

A piece of advice Brutus…, let RV know how hard you’ve been working at holding up the water cooler? He will appreciate you going the extra mile.

Good ole’ Brutus P. Thornapple, once in trouble, always in trouble. If you look up the word trouble in the dictionary is has a picture of Brutus P. Thornapple.

Wow – the first time?! I’m guessing Brutus isn’t looking forward to the thrill of learning new things. This new year went old school really fast.

Yeah, same for the kids in my family; all three names, big trouble. And you knew that the Apocalypse was about to descend on you when the parent is so mad, they go through the other kids’ names trying to yell yours… ☺

I don’t think Brutus is being called in to be told his bonus was too small. Or his raise should have been larger. I feel sorry for Bossman. He seems very miserable and angry and sad.

…but his middle name wasn’t said, so it can’t be THAT bad (at least going by my childhood)

Using all three names was bad. We mostly went by our first and middle names – adding the last name was the clincher.

I used to love when one of my parents was so mad they would sputter out my brothers names and finally mine. This would usually just end in laughter.

Brutus, Veeblefester could be calling you in to give you a raise, but I wouldn’t count on it. More than likely you are in store for scathing rebuke for a stupid mistake.

When l was in real trouble my mother would scream at me in French. She was a Canuck. I still cringe at those times and she died almost 40 years ago. I most definitely feel your pain….

I remember when my grandson was young, his parents always used his full name when he was in trouble. His middle name is my first name so I got to hear it quite a lot.

I’ve heard of this equation (Parental Use of Full Name = You’re in Trouble) and even seen it on an I Love Lucy episode, where Lucy and Ethel both used it on Ricky and Fred (Fred’s middle name is Hobart, by the way). Fortunately, neither of my parents ever used it on me.
