Glendora is more like 40 miles away from the beach. I’d be surprised if there weren’t surfers there.

I don’t ever remember seeing the name Glendora (Michigan) on any mail. It’s unincorporated and currently has no post office. It is assigned the zip code for Buchanan.

Yes, and Creedence Clearwater Revival was from the San Francisco Bay area, not the bayou. And all those Southern songs by The Band were written by a Canadian. And Dennis Wilson was the only Beach Boy who surfed. And?

The Surfaris captured the moment that your feet leave the board, you are forced under into the wave’s spin cycle, and begin the fight to get to the surface to breath PERFECTLY !!! As a kid with a 10’6" balsa wood stick back in the day when this tune just made airplay, I relived every adrenaline-fueled moment with each record spin.

No, it’s Glendora, New Jersey, home of the famous Gabreil Daveis Tavern, where George Washington patched up his troops during the war. Also Gloucester Township’s Community Garden, hosting about two dozen gardeners’ delicious productions.

Will Sunday’s strip never get here?

Could any Californian surfers in the ’60s afford a van that could make a fifty-mile trip?

First, Glendora is only 43 miles from Santa Monica, which has a wonderful beach. Regardless, people all over southern California—even 75 miles away from the ocean—spend plenty of time at the beach.

The nice thing about the Greater Los Angeles area, and the associated Orange County exurbs, is that you’re never too far from a beach worth visiting. Even 60+ miles away from shore, I guarantee you’ll find a community of surfing enthusiasts with boards ready to go catch some waves at any given moment.

Wipeout could me skiing and not surfing.

Oh, the 60s; Floating on a surf mat, listening to “surfer” music blasted over the So-Cal beach.

The only downside of SoCal surf beaches was that in some areas locals tried to keep out-of-towners away, sometimes with violent results (think Bay Boys of Lunada Beach in Palos Verdes—a white ‘My Beach’ bunch of punks). You never see that on the ski slopes, as nearly EVERYBODY comes from somewhere else.

You never know !! Perhaps those surf—and blues, and Motown, etc.—groups all came from Korea !!

Is Jef Mallett saying he thinks surfers only live right on the coast? But then musically, there’s Creedence Clearwater Revival who sang about the bayou and jambalaya, etc., with a Southern accent, but who were a San Francisco band just like Jefferson Airplane was. It’s all what sells.

I lived in Glendora in the early 1970s and there were plenty of surfers in my high school. We thought nothing of driving an hour to go to the beach in those days.

I’ve wiped out coming down a snowy hill in Michigan many times when I was young.

Never seemed like 50 miles in the 60s. Actually looked it up. 46 miles from Glendora to Huntington Beach (Surf City). Not nearly as far from my Surfer Girl friends house in Long Beach.

There is surfing on Lake Michigan, but not near Glendora.
