We have picked up trash all over the world for the past five years. It makes a difference. There is the immediacy of trash replaced by natural earth, there is the effect of people seeing you caring for the earth, then there is the subliminal and sometimes conscious effect of people going past the areas you have cleaned up and they have a much improved impression of the area. It’s all good.
Wrong response, Joe. Just get on the horn and call in the sanitation department. You have enough two legged mess ups to deal with, without cleaning the trash kind.
“Broken glass everywhere… People Pi**ing in the streets you know they just don’t care. I can’t take the smell, I can’t take the noise, I got no money to move out I guess I got no Choice!” “Rats in the front room roaches in the back… Junkies in the ally with a BaseBall Bat!”
It is NOT the job of the police to do that. Their job is to catch those that do harm to others and collect evidence from crimes. When people start asking for the police to do more than that, you head towards a police state that typically requires far more violence to escape.
People, don’t make the police do this. Don’t litter, and when you come across it, pick up some litter. It may not seem like much, but if we all pitch in, it could make a big difference.
There used to be a group called “ACTION — the American Council To Improve Our Neighborhoods”, which was designed to stop neighborhoods from becoming slums through diligent home and yard maintenance. Sounds like it needs to be restarted there.
Well, you know a lot of garbage is very important to keep safe and away from people stealing it. – Huh?
We have home pickup of garbage, yard waste, larger household items, and cans, bottles, jars and newspapers for recycling. If one has something certain items such as electronics one has to take same to the garbage dump for recycling. We loaded up a bunch of old electronics and took it all there. When we pulled into their driveway we had to stop at a security boot to show ID and get a pass. At the far end of the driveway we had to stop at a second booth and show our pass before we were allowed to park and throw out what we had brought. We had to stop and return our pass at that first booth on our way out. (If we had driven to the drop off point and they wanted proof of residence I would have understood that – to keep people from other townships/cities/villages to dropping off their garbage here.)
I had checked their website before we went to know when it was open. The rules for being allowed to bring items in included that vans could not have any racks on top and had to have seats in it – not sure why – afraid we would bring an audience with us?

The theory is more often called the “Broken Window” theory. Like everything about policing, it’s controversial.

Their pay is too high to be using their time for this. Hire people who need jobs to do it.

people complain about climate and such. I say, just stop polluting as best we can. We can’t even end littering.

I only ask for information — but has anyone ever found American police doing that, anywhere?
