Hobbes does not believe in admitting defeat.

Calvin picked up a lucky dime!

It doesn’t matter what it is or how ridiculous it might look, everything cats do is dignified. They are masters of the “what? I meant to do that” expression.

Watterson perfectly captured the fake nonchalance of a feline that flubbed a stunt.

Do we ever find out who won the poster contest from last week?

Cats will immediately go for the meaningless fur lick

Cats are truly worth a dime-a-dozen.

Proof that Calvin is even more agile than Hobbes. He stopped on a dime.

A big cat is still a cat.

Cats are cool that way.

I love the way Hobbs is drawn after his missed attack on Calvin.

It’s what tiggers do the best!

A REAL tiger could have stopped on a dime.

Calvin may believe that the world was black and white and that the sun is about the same size as a coin in Dad’s hand but he doesn’t believe what Hobbes wants him to believe.

My two little furballs do that all the time. They’ll pounce at something, miss, do a roll and flip, and then walk away with this “I meant to do that…” look.

And you’d love him to believe that bending over right then was intentional.

It was intentional. It’s exactly what Hobbes decided to do when he whiffed on the Calvin kill he was going for. Tigers are smart that way.

A tiger has his pride.

But it was. Cats never miscalculate.

It’s a cat thing.

I worked with an engineer who told me how he tripped one day while jogging and accidentally executed a complete somersault. He realized he would never be able to duplicate the experience.

It is funny how a cat will act nonchalant after exiting from a tree by falling backwards off a limb. Fortunately, they are built to survive such experiences.

can’t believe the first comment hasn’t turned political (yet)

Heh, Hobbes in the bottom row reminds me of our old cat Oreo, how he would do all that. (Though usually he’d lick himself after scratching, rather than the other way around.)

Cats do that. They’re clumsy too, and they get embarrassed after they do something stupid, look all around to check if anybody saw them.

All cats are the same, differ only in scale. Many times I’ve watched one of my cats do something unusually clumsy, and quickly assume the most statuesque pose possible while attending to some much-needed paw-washing.

That must be an incredible scene Calvin does with Hobbes! Does he have QUITE a vivid imagination!

Cats hate looking silly. So they pretend nothing happened.
