Called it. Earl unintentionally destroyed Opal’s sweater (not in shreds, but reduced in size).

I knew it. My mother did the same thing to me when I was a kid. Only she did it on purpose. Took my favorites sweater and washed and dried it on high heat so it would shrink and fit my little sister. I never really forgave her for that.

Yes, Earl goofed. But it’s just a sweater. It’s not the end of the world. Life goes on.

The worse I did was mix whites with colors and ended up with blue-tinted t-shirts and socks!

The only thing worse would be if the sweater was one of Opal’s hand knitted sweaters. When a sweater costs upwards of $100 for yarn and many hours of labor (no matter how enjoyable) to have it ruined by deliberate incompetence would be grounds for divorce or even considered justifiable homicide.

I love it when my husband does the laundry. He likes to wash his own clothes (yay!) and he’s great at the sheets and towels, but he knows to leave my stuff alone.

Several lifetimes ago, I washed and dried a bunch of my wife’s sweaters. I thought I was doing her a favor when, in reality, I was generating a whole wardrobe of doll clothes. It’s funny now (even funnier since we’ve been divorced almost 40 years).

My parents received a beautiful crocheted afghan from my great aunt as a wedding present. My mother was not used to anything made with wool. She washed and dried it and now it fits a twin bed. It is about 67 yrs old now and I treasure it!

Boiled Wool garments command a high price. That’s Earls excuse, and he’s sticking to it.

In my lifetime I have washed and dried (and shrunk) many wool items. You would think that I would have learned the first time! Luckily I can laugh and forgive myself. Unfortunately, my college roommate didn’t see it the same way. :-(

Ha ha ha! I did that once by mistake. I don’t know how I let a good wool sweater get in with my work clothes’ laundry, but when I took it from the dryer that men’s 48 looked like it was for a two-year-old. I was just glad I had a backup!

I was in the navy and we wore the dixie cup hats and there was a dirty ring on it so I got a tooth brush and bleach and brushed it on and washed it. LOL! I wound up with a beanie and a cloth ring. Who knew bleach would deteriorate the cloth!!

This is actually Opal’s fault. She should have never put her sweater in the laundry basket if it needed dry cleaning. It should be put somewhere separate to take to the dry cleaner.

Earl may have taken a course in FELTING and, lucky for Nelson, Gramma’s sheep’s wool sweater is now perfect for him.

dry clean was of course an issue, though I would expect a wool sweater to be hand washable. But around here we only put specific things in the dryer. I have a number of favorite t-shirts that have shrunk. Now we put most stuff on hangers to dry. If they have been washed several times I consider them preshrunk and don’t worry about them.

This is why my husband is not allowed to do laundry. When we got married I couldn’t understand why all of his underwear was gray. Then I realized that he sorted clothes by size. Dress socks and underwear both being small washed together. No nope.
