In order to hold 5,000,000 flies, the hat must be larger on the inside than the outside. Maybe this is not a post-apocalyptic Earth, and is actually prehistoric Gallifrey and this is an early step to the development of the TARDIS.
Is this Frank Zappa’s inspiration for Studebaker Hauk, fantastic new superhero of the current (1971) economic slump? SH used flies to get around, as told in the magnum opus “Billy the Mountain”.
