I agree with Peter…. also hardware stores don’t include manuals for hammers or screwdrivers (i.e. “don’t let kids use hammer” or “don’t stick screwdriver into outlets”
Peter reminds me of why I loved Clippy so much. It wasn’t because I myself used him. When one of my coworkers would ask me the same stupid questions about a MS Office program that they could have answered themselves with the help file, I’d introduce them to Clippy and his friends. Their attention grabbing antics reminded my coworkers they could ask their Office assistant of choice instead of bothering me with it. If you ask me, Clippy’s programmers deserved a Nobel Prize instead of all the hate.
Amongst my other IT Support colleagues, we have a saying, “RTFM”, which means, “Read The bleeping Manual.” (I’ll leave you to figure out what word “bleeping” is substituting, since GoComics won’t let me say the correct word.)
I don’t use manuals, period. I usually go in completely blind and figure it out on my own.
I like computer games that have no manuals anymore. Trying to figure out how to do certain things can drive you crazy. Luckily there are wikis and walkthrus.
That’s what the F1 Key is for, Peter. Online help.
With Microsoft the error messages are very insightful. “Error 169: Something went wrong. Press F1 for more information” and when you look up error 169 it tells you, “Something is wrong.”
The best help manual for any Microsoft product is Google.

Maybe Jason threw away the computer manual because he only wanted the computer for his games.

Ah yes; I have this one printed out and posted on the wall of my cubicle. Great to see it come around in the rotation again. ;-)

I really missed Word Perfect (and Reveal Codes – you could find and fix any anomaly) when the company switched to Word.

I haven’t bought a new computer that came with an owner’s manual in so long I forget they used to include them.

You have a manual, it’s called a textbook
