I suppose today’s lesson is, never try to out-smart a ‘self-proclaimed expert’!

A wholly legitimate question.

Without the hole there would be no munchkins.

To fully cook the insides of the dough, the dough would have to stay in the oil for a longer time, which would lead to the outsides becoming burnt. Punching a hole in the middle of the dough, however, allows the insides and the outsides to cook evenly, creating a perfect doughnut.

That is where they get the munchkin’s from..aduh…

Yeah, where? Seriously, I prefer jelly-filled donuts. They have no holes.

Do dough wingnuts have holes?

I heard a comic strip merger is in the works. Soon, there will be one strip called “Born Looser Parts.”

ok… any other reason why the donut has to be in the middle.

Hurricane is such a smart-aleck. Brutus, supposedly the hole in the center is to aid in cooking it evenly.

Her answer was appropriate to his question. He didn’t ask why there is a hole in the donut.

The little smart @ss avoids the question, which is why is it there at all?

Put the hole in the side and you have a croissant.

She flunked donuts 101 but l bet she does know how to eat them. ANSWER. So they are and can be cooked all the way through as the fried dough was uncooked in the center when they were fried as a ball of dough….

A more important question is, why is there a hole? Maybe when a pastry has no filling, you put in a hole.

I dunno, Thorny, she may have wandered over from The Dinette Set……

When I was a kid I read in a comic book that donuts had holes so that guys steering sailing ships could stash one on the steering wheel (made sense)

Brutus really knows, and Hurricane Harriet is wrong this time, so Brutus tells Harriet, “the donut holes are put in a see-through plastic container and sold at my bakery”…

Brutus, any good lawyer will tell you, never ask a question if you don’t already know the answer. Also, you should know that you will never win a battle of wits with Hatie.

So they can charge you extra for the holes.

So you can hold more donuts on your finger(s) than in your hand, retorts Brutus…

Seems reasonable. How else could it be used to replace a tire during an emergency?

I just know that I was very happy when Dunkin’ started selling Munchkins (and others followed suit, calling them “doughnut holes”). I hate waste, and it always bothered me that the doughnut manufacturers would waste so much of the product when they punched out the middle to make a hole.

I’m in the South where Krispy Kreme is king, but I much prefer Dunlin.
