Leave 4 large dog food bowls and a coy of guns and ammo on the front porch. Tack a note on door saying, Cletus be back in 5 minutes. The dogs are inside. King got the mailman last week, got him real good, pretty bad shape.
Another sign on our door – quote from John Wayne: " Life is tough. It’s even tougher if you’re stupid." With the other signs, hopefully anyone trying to break in isn’t stupid. Home defender rounds and dog teeth can handle tough.
From talk by our kids when they were in high school: the break-ins are done at lunch time by kids from neighboring high school. They know when people are at work and no one is at home, for example an aging parent, or a even a dog. The things they look for: drugs, drugs, and drugs, jewelry and did I mention drugs?
Our parents had a break-in fifteen years ago, and all of the above in true. The kids took all their medications that were on the kitchen table.
The biggest expense was replacing the back door. What the thieves took was practically nothing. They were mad that the house wasn’t worth it, so they vandalized the walls by spray painting the living room. In addition to the door, the parents got new furniture, repainting the living room and dining room and carpeting and drapes. Since the policy was replacement value, they had to look for furniture that looked similar in price range to what they had on pictures.
What it taught us is to ask our agent about what replacement value means in our policy, since ours is with different company. Plus it taught us that what the companies advertize and what they do for you in real life, is not the same at all…
Really? I thought Zoe was into the name branded clothes like Gucci and Coach. She’s at that age where she’s for sure into American Girls. I thought Darryl would’ve given into her begging for one, especially because the McPhereson kids age slower than most, so she’s probably been begging for years.
When my 2 older brothers and I were growing up, our dad kept a revolver in a holster hanging on the newel post of the stairs by the living room. Don’t know if it was loaded or not, as we knew better than to touch it. After he died we found some sort of automatic gun in his nightstand. Again, don’t know if that was loaded, either. Since then, however, I have armed my own home. I have a spear that my cousin brought from Tanzania by my front door.

He may have $2000 worth of old t-shirts, although he would not get that much if he tried to sell them.

Smith & Wesson would be a better value.

I used to sell home security systems door to door. When no one was home, I would just leave a brochure on the kitchen table.

That’s why I don’t have a dog or an alarm system. My stuff isn’t worth stealing.

You can buy a cheap game/wildlife camera for under $30 – just need to recharge/replace the batteries every couple months
