Soap box? Bar? Reminds me of comedian Larry Miller’s “five stages of drinking” when a drunk person in a bar gets on his soap box and argues FOR Astroturf in one stage and then in another stage argues AGAINST it. Classic bit!
I ordered a box of bulk soap about ten years ago and I’m STILL going through those bars. The individual soaps are wrapped in paper, but the original box is pretty good at standing on and causing a good ol’ fashioned scene.
At Speaker’s Corner in Hyde Park (London), you can shout as loud as you want about anything you want* so long as you’re standing on something; if there’s nothing between you and the ground, the police will tell you to quiet down or move along (well, they’ll probably tell you “Go get a box”). If you didn’t bring a box with you, there’s a Marks & Spencer just around the way where you can probably find an old packing crate around back.
*Technically, you can’t do “illegal speech” like threaten violence, and profanity is frowned upon.

The multitudes might be willing to come near Calvin if he used the soap.

He really has nothing better to do, does he? Especially during summer?

Where I live, bars of soap come wrapped in paper.

It’s actually quite difficult to harangue the multitudes when you’re slip-sliding all over the floor.

It would better to be slippery when haranguing the masses.

I’d prefer Calvin not use soap. I want to smell him coming.

“Harangue”? You know, that’s what’s wrong with the world today. To many harangues. We need to weed out the haranguer herds. Let’s boycott harangues.

I don’t really understand, Calvin, it’s hard to see multitudes when your 3 feet tall. Talking about you calvin.

Could there be a strip where the family wants him to make the most of the summer, so Calvin gets sent to a summer camp?

If it’s a cardboard box with soap residue in, he could give them the slip….

Another ‘subtle’ comment from Hobbes…. saying Calvin probably need a bath before venturing out into the ‘multitudes’…

I haven’t used a bar of soap for at least twenty years. Body wash, now that’s a different story.

Soapboxes used to be wood crates large enough to stand on. They were used to ship soap bars to stores. That is the origin of that.
