The fun part came after posing for the statue was finished: Giving the model a sponge bath.

her clay likeness has made an impression.

So that moisture stayed trapped,

with damp cloths it was wrapped.

We cannot see the statue’s expression.

Does this statue make my butt look fat?

Molly the model was too shy to leave the sculpture exposed.

Isn’t she great? She’s as beautiful as you, but while you will age and get saggy, her beauty will last forever.

Even after all that time sculpting her, he still wants to take another peek.

In his book, The Brass Ring, the late political cartoonist William Mauldin writes how in his youth, he attended life-drawing classes that featured nude models. Male art students were studiously intent on their drawing despite having a fully nude woman posing for them.

But once after the session, as the female model put her clothes back on behind a curtain, a slight gap in the curtain enabled them to see her DRESSING, and they found that somehow more interesting. And the model was terribly embarrassed (to be seen “bare-assed,” presumably along with the other naughty bits).

And in that glance he realized she would never be more than a model to him; she doesn’t keep her toenails clean.
