Red sky at midday, he fell off that way!

“Red at six, pick up sticks. Red at seven, go to heaven. Red at eight, don’t be late. Red at nine, you’re looking fine.”

Schulz proving he was multi-talented. If Schulz hadn’t become a top world class cartoonist, he could have been a top world class poet to rival the world’s best poets! “Red at noon. Fly a balloon.” Such superb rhyming is joy to my ears.

my dad used to day the red in the morning rhyme, he picked it up as a navy sailor in the Pacific in World War II

That adage has been around for at least 2,000 years. From Matthew, Chapter 16:

1 The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test Jesus they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

2 He answered them, ‘When it is evening, you say, “It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.”

3 And in the morning, “It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.” You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.

4 An evil and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.’ Then he left them and went away.

Better red than dead, or is it the other way around? I can never remember.

It’s not that funny, Woodstock.
