I carried mail during the summer while in college. One of our carriers sprayed a dog through the screen door as it charged. Unfortunately, he sprayed just as the owner bent down to pick the dog up. She was not pleased. Back at the office there was quite a bit of snickering.
Many years ago, I serviced environmental monitoring equipment. There was a truly tremendous Brahma bull, at least 1500 pounds, in the paddock next to one machine; people warned me not to make him mad or he’d go through the fence. I started bringing carrots for him and soon he’d prance up the the fence, eat his carrots, and present his hind end for me to scratch.
Official postal policy is to never give dogs treats. They will come to expect it and can get mad when a substitute carrier works the route who has no treats.
Kind of training the pooches they get a reward for threatening the delivery person. (My neighbor’s dogs (many dogs) get a treat after they’ve bark manically if if anyone so much as walks by, across the street. This, of course, sets off all the pandemic dogs across two blocks.
I am the one paying for the mail carrier treats. I invited her to meet my puppy and gave her her first bag. Even though there is a gate keeping the dog inside the last thing I want is my puppy becoming aggressive towards her as he grows into an adult dog. I sometimes have a receipt to sign, better she be met by sloppy kisses than attempts to bite. It doesn’t stop him to bark at anyone else.

If any of these dogs are supposed to be guard dogs, that’s probably not a good thing.

Do they live where letter carriers go to the door? In any case, you should never feed anything to someone’s dog without permission.

Maybe the pepper spray isn’t for the dogs.

I wish more people would say “mail carrier.”

Both child and Frazz have hit the exact problem. Solutions, however, will take a lot more than words.

I sure enjoyed, as in adored, this Frazz Comic. Wish I knew what the young ladies name was. She is as smart and kind as Kathy.
