Would you take someone seriously if they were so full of themselves?

I realized a big reason why P&HU would work better in an animated format better than Calvin and Hobbes would.

One of the many reasons Bill refused to animated C&H is because everyone has a different idea of how the titular duo should sound, and it would be impossible to find voices for them that appeal to everyone (which I agree with). The Peanuts and Garfield specials have greatly influenced people to the point where it’s hard not to read the comics in the character’s voices, and he didn’t want the same thing to happen with C&H. (For instance, would Calvin be voiced by an actual child, a grown woman, or a grown man doing a nasally voice?)

With P&HU, it’s a LOT easier to come up with voices for Phoebe and Marigold, since I think most people have a general/basic idea of the kind of voices both characters have, with Phoebe having a typical young girl’s voice and Marigold having a proud upper-class lady’s voice. (It helps that Dana has an official voiceclaim for Marigold in the form of Jane Krakowski.)

Marigold laughs at Phoebe’s ridiculousness. Phoebe laughs at Marigold’s seriousness. The perfect pair.

But seriously….

“Look upon my seriousness, ye jesters, and despair!”

The letters in panel 3 could use a brushing.

For someone so serious, she’s quite frivolous… But is she gregarious?

Seriously?

It’s a little tough to take Marigold too seriously after all the things we’ve seen her horn stuck in.
