I did well enough acedemically that I had the choice, at 11 years old, to go to a better, more challenging school, or stay at the school where my friends were. (They did not have the choice)
Wise decision Char! I am glad your moms are supportive as well, for awhile I thought they had already signed the paperwork in the school counselor’s office! Nothing wrong with being the best student in 6th or 7th grade, perhaps there are other ways you can challenge your intellect without skipping a grade.
Yes, dessert before the main meal! When our kids were very young, and when it was a family birthday day, that was our tradition, and it lasts until today with their kids too… The cake was served first because they just couldn’t wait. Then after about an hour or so, we had our proper dinner and another dessert or another piece of cake.
It’s a little sad that Charlotte doesn’t have the social confidence yet to feel like she can stay connected to her current friends after school and on weekends, and make still more friends in a new level at school.
But, she’s still very young. All things with time.
If you are going to eat the same amount of dessert either way, eating dessert first guarantees you don’t eat more in total than you should. I am guaranteed to finish dessert even if it is really too much food.

Most kids don’t get a choice so I’m happy for her

I stayed. Wrong choice.

You might get dessert before dinner tonight, Charlotte, but I wouldn’t count on in becoming the new norm. And you’d be pushing it to ask for a pony.

Huh. “Heart” follows “Garfield” in my list, in which both talked about dessert first…

Non-issue avoided. Next time on Heart of the City Z: will Dean have macaroni for dinner or hamburger helper?

Dean will certainly be happy.

I had a friend who, in third grade, was bumped up to fourth. A few months later, she came back to us. She hadn’t been happy in fourth grade.

Congratulations Charlotte. A well informed decision.

That’s not judgement, that’s rebellion.
