Curiously, no one has ever been able to produce a reliable calendar authored by Nature itself. Wouldn’t help if we could. The systems kinda runs on automatic and, after eons of study, events can be relatively well anticipated, but throw in humankinds’ propensity for impulsive acts of destruction and expectation vanishes in smoke.

July 4 – Monday, July 3, was the hottest day ever recorded globally, according to data from the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Prediction.

The average global temperature reached 17.01 degrees Celsius (62.62 Fahrenheit), surpassing the August 2016 record of 16.92C (62.46F) as heatwaves sizzled around the world.

The southern U.S. has been suffering under an intense heat dome in recent weeks. In China, an enduring heatwave continued, with temperatures above 35C (95F). North Africa has seen temperatures near 50C (122F).

Unfortunately, the northeastern part of America is suffering from toxic smoke and haze from fires in Canada…I read this will continue into the summer and fall….The air quality was in the danger zones….

Where we used to live we had four seasons; Cold/wet, warm/dry, hot/dry, cool/dry. Having moved further up the coast our winters are longer, wetter and sometimes snowy and the summers not so hot. Having lived in areas where it can get oppressively humid in the summer I am glad to be back on the left coast. Temps expected to get up into the high 20s C and lows expected to be 14 – 17º C. Sunny and hazy with cloudiness on and off throughout the week.

Scotland seems to have 2 seasons. Dark and cold winter, and light and not quite so cold winter.

Minnesota, where my family’s roots are, has 2 seasons: winter and the 4th of July. California, where I lived for 38 years, has 2 seasons: summer and Christmas. Washington, where I’ve lived for 26 years, has 2 seasons: rainy and road construction.
