Parents who think they own their children think it’s perfectly okay to mess with their kids’ stuff. They don’t think of their kids as actual persons; their children do not actually own their own stuff; kids are merely offshoots, good for displaying the parents’ power and making themselves look good to other parents.
When my son was ten or eleven, he read a book, Ten Ways for a Kid to Make Money. One way was to have a toy yard sale with all the toys that he no longer played with. So, he did that, and we put some signs around the neighborhood. I had him price everything pretty low so people wold buy. He made about $25, which he used to buy new toys.
Wanda, let Zoe grow up with her stuffed animals. Why are you so adamant about purging them?? Let her be a little girl, she’ll grow away from them.. my girls did.
At least Wanda is telling her. I can still remember the day I came home from school & looked for my stuffed raccoon. I couldn’t find it so I asked my mom to help. She told me that the raccoon had a rip at the base of the tail so she threw it away. Fast forward to when my girls were little. Any time a stuffie of theirs got a rip I sewed it back up. I became quite a good stuffie doctor.
Would any of the female posters here care to explain why it seems women feel the need, and think they have the right, to throw away the possessions of their family members? Both my mother and my sister did that to me. I would never even consider doing that! (Ahem, not until it was done to me, anyway…)
I have a friend who’s my age and she still collects stuffed animals that are souvenirs of places she or her friends have been. When I came back from Antarctica I brought her a stuffed Albatross that makes a squawking sound when it’s tail is squeezed. She loves it.
I think Zoe should be allowed to keep every stuffed toy that she can remember the origin of or something special about it, as long as they’re kept in an orderly fashion.
My mom cleaned out my room and got rid of over half my possessions that she said I didn’t need any more when I was away at a summer camp when I was 12. No warning. My room wasn’t messy. She just decided to do it while I was away. I remember feeling horrified and violated. So the next weekend after I got back, I got rid of her jewelry that she never wears. I was grounded for a month, but she never touched my stuff again. Being an adult shouldn’t spare you of the consequences of being a bully and not having appropriate boundaries.

Oh come on. She’s a kid! Let her be a kid, for cripes sakes. She’ll outgrow it naturally.

If you have enough storage space, you could wait until she is in college.

Don’t remind me. My parents threw out all my comics when I was in college. I had about 400.

Open the backs; take out the stuffing and make them into a quilt.

Did Zoe steal them from other children or did she find a way to get them by trading them? Because otherwise all of this is just Wanda’s fault.

Zoe darling just keep on and ignore Mom—75 yrs old here and still got my child hood ones and newer ones after I have “grown up”. Hang in there.

Purging is fine for mobile games, cache and history files. The stuffed animals are a treasure trove to be stored for nostalgic childhood days, Wanda.
