/// The Johansens don’t know what to do.

In their window this strange parrot flew.

Their child wants it to stay,

    “My pet African Grey.”

But it talks, and its language is blue.

It was lost on the painter that his model was flipping him the bird.

Look, kid. I’m a 45 year old grey parrot, and I can speak three languages, while you’re 14, and your mommy had to promise you a portrait if you didn’t flunk 7th grade for the third time, so don’t you go getting uppity with me and calling me a birdbrain!

A parrot sought some place to land/

And observed a petite human hand/

    On a young human female/

So he shot her an email./

Her response: “Come on down – it sounds grand!”///

Said the bird (in an avian shriek)/

    “I can’t stay for more than a week !”/

    The maiden replied/

    “How long you abide/

Is not my concern, bubble beak !”///

It’s not certain how long he stayed/

( Not for too very long, I’m afraid)

    But he met her demand/

That a bird in the hand/

Is a moment that must be portrayed !

Some birds like to gather in flocks,

Some birds like to sleep in their socks/

    But a bird who unlocks/

    The cure for the pox/

    Must be known the “parrot-dox”…

Portrait of a Girl with Grey Parrot

    Paste (including the quote marks)

"Category:People with parrots in paintings" site=https://commons.wikimedia.org

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ecosia, and Yandex search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found, and once there find the text string Grey, and click its link for info and links that point to more info about this roughly jumbo envelope size, circa 1840 painting.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3161 (July 10, 2023) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there pointing to the blog entry with info about this artist. So far 45 works, with initially or current unknown attribution, have been used here. The April 24, 2023, strip has the prior.

With that smirk on her face, she’s thinking, “We’re having squab for dinner tonight (or the closest thing to it.) That’s the last time it tattles on me.”

Looks like the painter used one person for the body and another for the head. The perspective is bizarre!

    The caption is great!
