What a dilemma! Tis might be a noble thing to do to pick up other people’s trash from around the lake, but I would think you need to have a better place to take the trash than to dump it in your own room!
Yes, Elizabeth has feathered her own nest. However, it is perfectly acceptable for Elly to demand her daughter tidy up. The nest is part of John and Elly’s tree.

Elizabeth just got home, right? It looks to me like she is in the process of unpacking, which usually involves sorting laundry to be done from things to be put away, the items that were specific for the trip will get put away and she might finish the chore in one attempt. She isn’t walking out on her mess; she just chose to unpack in her own room.
So the entire camping trip happened offstage? I know there were one or two panels that showed the campground, but I would have thought that adventure would have been able to carry a few strips.
My daughter used to leave her room a mess until she got a job cleaning motel rooms. She became the person focused on trying to clean up the messes left by her roommates.
I used to think Mike was the messy one, but it appears that none of the Patterson children keep a clean or (looking at the amount of food on the floor) healthy room. Once she cleans out that knapsack, she might want to wash it out before she gives it back to Mike. Of course, it’s Mike, so he probably wouldn’t notice.
To look at me, you’d think my home would be neat, organized, etc, because I rarely leave my home looking like a slob. Hair combed, at least basic make-up, clothes neat, etc. However, for a couple of reasons, my home is a disaster. I rarely have company as I do have some pride and don’t want even my friends to see how I live. Part of the problem is that I (quickly) moved to a smaller home without much storage space, so just crammed stuff wherever I could. Also, I don’t consider myself hoarder, but others might. I was raised with the notion that as soon as you get rid of something, you’ll need it and then have to waste time and money getting a new whatever.
I thought the tall furry thing was a Yeti in the first panel. After a while I realized it was supposed to be the dog. Odd angle, it looks as tall as Elizabeth.

There’s a difference between being a slob in your own space and being a slob all over a public area.

Liz is COOL. Just don’t be slobs in public places. At home, it’s your kingdom to trash.

Well now that you’ve cleaned up other people’s messes, it’s time to clean up your own.

It irritates me to no end when see a cigarette being thrown out the window from the car in front of me. Not to mention it being a fire hazard.

Sounds like what kids need to expect as adults:
1.) The world isn’t fair. The sooner you grasp this, the better off you will be.

3.) Instant prosperity is a myth. College is important, but it is not a royal road to success. You will have to prove you are worthy of your status and perks.

That room looks like my daughter’s did when she was teen. Now? She is a clean freak in her own home. Go figure.

Why is Elly surprised at the mess in her room? How long have you been a mom for crying out loud! ;-p

The new generation is as socially anxious as we were. Except we did not talk about cleaning the environment. It was clean.
