For those curious, from the from websiteThe focus of RTM is to separate the traumatic feelings from the memories using a relaxed re-imaging process. Clients are guided to dissociate themselves from the traumatic memories and while separated from feelings of fear, terror or helplessness, make changes, so that the memory no longer signals fight, flight or danger. Following RTM treatment, people find they are no longer feel preoccupied with trauma events and their nightmares and flashbacks no longer trouble them.
The last issue of TIME featured a cover story about Sen John Fetterman’s stroke and depression. He is amazingly frank about the value of treatment and what a shame it is that there is a stigma attached to mental health issues and no money to fund it. “Only people kill people, it’s a mental health issue” until it’s time to allocate money for it to help reduce gun violence and then poof. (This last sentence is mine, not Fetterman’s.)
Read a thread yesterday about MCU Captain America and PTSD.
Think about it; Cap comes out of hibernation and gets zero treatment. I’d guess that as a man of the 1940s he’d eschew “head shrinkers” and man up. He takes almost two years to meet an actual friend [The Falcon].
Attn Vets: If you ignored the email or other information about this program don’t be so quick to dismiss it. BTW, if you get a coach who obviously is not right for you then definitely ask for a reassignment rather than give up on it. All government programs have their share of incompetents.
Here is an interesting bit of information. Due to our gun nuts loving guns more than children, kids are suffering from PTSD from shooting drills and actually being in the line of fire. Republicans have no use for the kids either, Empty G and her constant ranting against them is one example.
For anyone who, like me, doesn’t know what RTM stands for, here’s a definition:
“RTM Therapy uses a short visualization process to retrieve and alter the memory. It is a stress-free method of treatment that has been shown to relieve nightmares and flashback symptoms of PTSD.”
Just after I got out I was working at an aerospace company when someone used a Hilti tool near me. Training had me on the deck, got laughed at of course. Years later manager at a store across from me did the same. He’d been in Afghanistan and went to manage a jewelry store to get away from anything close to what he left. We got along, been there, done that. My PTSD is the child who was in a doorway when a house flashed over. Grandkids don’t have a grip on my feelings on fire safety
If only we spent as much time, effort and money to bring our troops back from war as we do to send them to it. Instead it’s “you’re on your own, soldier; buck up and tough it out!”.
Brothers and sisters – Please take the first step and go to your VA facility to find out more about this program. I volunteer at my local clinic and I know there are talented, loving people waiting to meet you.
I had a friend who came back from Vietnam with 3 Purple Hearts and a metal ankle. One July 4th he was on an 8’ ladder changing a light bulb when some fool threw a cherry bomb into the room.
You did not see him move between stretching up for the bulb and trying to dig into the floor; the universe just instantaneously shifted.

…a good cause, and glad it’s mentioned, but a Sunday funny with homework attached is a terrible idea.

Hopefully, this will help some of those who need help. Wonder if Ray could have done that before the therapy?

Republicans hate paying for health care for veterans. More of that ‘free stuff’.

It’s harder to find your way if you don’t see the signs. Get a guide you trust and let them lead the way, until you see your own way forward.

Doonesbury: Still providing useful service decades into its run. Far more concerned for our vets than “patriotic” hypocrite treason babies.

Too bad it’s only open to retirees and active duty. The 2-4 year grunts are not accepted. Typical.
