Does Ray remember that he has to hang that first tip on the wall for Good Luck?
Many moons ago, I wandered into a new neighborhood bar that had just opened a couple hours earlier. While I was sitting there, one of the other 4 customers got up and left. The woman tending bar did a little Happy Dance. Her first Tip. Then someone asked where behind the bar she was going to tack it up for good Luck. She’d forgotten about that part. Plus, it was a $10 Tip. She really wanted to keep it and Spend it. But, eventually, she gave in and hunted up some thumb tacks.
Then, one of the other guys sitting there said that, if tacking a dollar to the wall was good luck, he could use some. So he got out a dollar bill, wrote his name on it and she tacked his bill up next to hers. Then, the rest of us decided to join in.
When I went back a few days later, they had close to 100 dollar bills thumb tacked to the wall behind the bar. Within a few months, they had run out of wall space and gotten a Ladder so they could tack the Good Luck dollars to the Ceiling. Also a staple gun to make it easier.
That was over 45 years ago and they are Still in business, still gathering “Good Luck”, although they did have to Move to a larger location about 5 years after they opened.

Good service deserves a nice tip! If you can’t afford to tip then most likely you really probably can’t afford to eat out!

Let’s see who will take out their wallet first when having to pay the bar tab next time.
