On a recent call for service on our house, the rep mistakenly interrupted my description with the phrase, ‘So, to cut a long story short, what you’re saying is . . .‘! Turns out the company I had long trusted for house issues had been bought in by an international company and ’reconfigured.’ Without notice to the customer base, they cut out local contact and added a ‘call center’ with phony local address. Told the guy not to bother and not to call back and hung up.
I get the feeling we’re gonna get a lot more of his attitude.
In my early years, I was a men’s fashion salesman and ad rep for a mid-major newspaper. The first thing one learns is to never, ever cut off the customer in a way that suggests that you are in any way disinterested in his/her comments. Enjoy listening or fake it, you just don’t do that.

When someone says ,“To make a long story short”, it is already too late.

Usually when someone says “to make a long story short” I’m thinking that’s impossible for them to do

Maybe he’d started mansplaining. Or like my BIL, even worse, engineer-splaining.
