Broom-Hilda is a strip that’s run LONGER than anything Bats has extruded, and it’s still funny! If you do a job for 50 years, you’re either going to end up really good at it (like Russell Meyers). If you suck at it after 50 years… Crank could be replaced by Brewster Rockit or Breaking Cat News and the only people who would notice were the ones who say “Whoa, the comics page got a strip better!” Otherwise, it’d be people spitting their dentures into their Maypo screaming “WHERE INSANE BUS MAN?! NUUURSE!” (Also, a lot of us Anti-Cranks are Bitter Exes. I read Funky from its FIRST DAY, and loved it until Tom’s hubris kicked in)
