Heidi used gathering firewood as an excuse to go into the woods and sleep off the hangover.

Nina practiced holding onto a branch all night and never letting go, so her parents would trust her to sleep in the treehouse.

“‘Wooden’ you like to be my boyfriend?”

She was so tired, she slept like a log.

Lauren’s Tinder date was quite boring.

In deep and shaded woods I sleep

My thoughts and dreams now incomplete

Gathering wood I’ve earned my keep

But nows the time for counting sheep.

At least it’s not Kathe Kollwitz. (https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/367434 shows the etching I’m thinking of. Not suitable for work, not fun to look at, but a hell of a work of art.)

She’d gotten so exhausted from just unpacking her IKEA ergonomic bed that she didn’t have the energy to put it together.

Earlier she had rebuffed his amorous advances as they walked through the Enchanted Forest and they fought in angry words. Nevertheless, they made up and fell asleep holding hands while listening to the rustling of the leaves. When he awoke, though, he regretted having called her a “stick in the mud”.

Some reader must have complained; the GoComics Moderator removed my comment about this painting there (it preceded the one still there). Quite often, this artist included children in his works. That comment, in addition to this work, pointed to another painting by him showing a boy sleeping in the hay (sort of a 2 for 1), not included here. Oh well, …. Since hyperlinks are no longer supported in GoComics comments, I won’t be redoing that comment. The September 28, 2020, strip has the prior non-repeat by him.
