Very Precise sign.

Just do it all in decimal miles. Don’t think I’ve seen more than one decimal place in mile makers, so 27.0 miles and 110.0 miles.

One of my profs was DEATH on over-precise results. Randall Munroe had a cartoon about that.

Of course, this resurrects the debate about whether it’s the mileage to the nearest edge of town, or to the center of the town.

Virtual ream after virtual ream has been virtually inked (or the bits set to one) over that discussion.

When we were in Northern Ireland, the mile signs for distance seemed to be determined by the Mayors of each town. A sign would say 5 miles. After we traveled 4 or 5 miles, the new sign would read 5 miles. Both were for the same town.

The sign must have been made by Sheldon Cooper or Mr. Spock.

No buildings. Must be the outskirts of Houston, TX.

Hum. I sense a disturbance in the local fault line. One part is going up, the other going down.

Only problem is Wilcox is nowhere near I-10.

My mom grew up in a small town in Iowa in the 1920s. The sign said “Welcome to *. 1,111 friendly people.”

As a former highway sign maker, I’m glad this never became a common practice. We did have certain mile post numbers stolen so frequently the engineers made them a decimal fraction, like 68.5.
