When a room stays the same, it makes a mother feel like the occupant is GONE, forever…. I’m sure it’s just like when a family member dies unexpectedly.
Apropos to nothing, I’m missing my older brother. He was 3-1/2 years older than me, and messy rooms always remind me of him. I found out yesterday that he collapsed at work & died yesterday afternoon. He was 62.
When I was about Liz’s age, I gave my normally messy room a thorough cleaning and left the door open. I told my mom it was her birthday present. I’m not sure how long it stayed that way, probably not long.

The morale of the story is that if you like seeing a messy, then you should not clean up the messy room.

She didn’t say she didn’t LIKE it, just that she’s not use to it.

I don’t think your Mom would like that, Elizabeth.

It takes people to make a home. A shrine tends to be rather lifeless.

Would it take that much effort, Elizabeth?

Hmmm, time for a transfer student?

But it would be even creepier if there were a few items scattered here and there.

This is exactly what my mother said when I went away for my last two years of high school. She said the room didn’t seem lived-in anymore.

Yes, Cru-Elly misses having something to complain about, NTM having a male child to nag!

It’s usually different with the daughters than with the sons (who can do no wrong!)
